My Golf History
Many people would assume that I have been playing the game of golf since the age of three, competed on high school and collegiate levels, and that golf has been in my family for 40 years. The reality of it is my true love growing up was basketball, besides, in my high school era there wasn’t a golf program available for girls.
I grew up with four brothers, so the options I had if I wanted to play with my siblings were football, basketball and baseball. I loved! and still love the game of basketball. I worked hard at the game, I played varsity ball as a freshman, I was captain of the team for many years, I won all-district, best offensive player, best defensive player, best free-throw percentage for many years. I was one of only two women in the history of my school to score over 1,000 points in a high school career. Volleyball and softball also played a large role in my life while in school.
I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 4 years with degrees in Mass Communications and Marketing.
I was introduced to golf after college. I worked hard. I competed on an amateur level. I turned professional eight years later. I became an LPGA member, which is a wonderful women’s professional organization. One must pass a playing test, written tests, a teaching evaluation and must attend several educational programs on the golf swing before one can advance to Class A status, which is my current rank. I am required to earn on-going certification units to remain in the program. I competed in local professional events, but as I got into my forties, I realized my interest was quickly turning to teaching the game. I became a full-time teaching professional in 2005.
I coached Cor Jesu Academy for ten years. We went to state as a team, several girls have gone to state as individual competitors and we even won districts as a team.
I currently coach several juniors who compete and rank nationally. I also teach several women’s clinics and help many of them reach a level that allows them to play in their company events, family events, or just a girl’s day out. One of my passions is taking an adult student from having no knowledge of the game (or clubs or shoes) and turning them into experienced players. I have taught men and women alike on how to take the game from the lesson tee to the course with ease.
My student base is currently comprised of an age range between 3 years of age to 84. I teach men, women, boys, girls, the disabled, every body type under the sun and all levels of mental strength and athletic abilities. This game is truly for everyone and has been deemed “a game of a lifetime”.
First and foremost, I want golf to be a fun experience for you. I will take the intimidation factor out and get you comfortably settled in.
Golf has taught me patience, appreciation for beauty, and has given me many, many new found friends.
I look forward to sharing it all with you.
